KING'S HEAVEN Andrew and Sarah King commissioned this painting of Andrew's Dad and Mom's sugarhouse as a gift to give to them for their anniversary. Sugaring is a rite of spring that most of us enjoy in Vermont, as it marks the passing of a long winter, when the sweet smell of boiling sap permeates the air in and around a sugarhouse. It is "heaven", in spite of the long, focused hours of hard work, gathering sap, splitting wood for the fire and keeping that sugar fire going sometimes around the clock on a good-run day! "King's Heaven", which now hangs on a wall in the King home, will bring back memories to all, of many busy, happy and sweet hours spent in the sugarhouse.

SWEET SUMMER HOME
This painting was done for a neighbor, whose family dearly loves to spend time at this remote, lakeside summer home in northern Canada. Since it is located so far from their home, they only get to spend a limited time there and my neighbor wanted to give his parents something to look at through the cold Vermont winter, to remind them of pleasant moments the family has shared. He couldn't decide which was more important - the cottage, the fishing pier, the loons, the fantastic sunsets or the gate which welcomes their arrival. So, I painted a story told in vignettes, about all of those favorite experiences, in one painting.
